Protest at the Allianoi Antique City

Six members of the Nature Foundation protested the demolition of the antique city by chaining themselves to the cranes.

NO EXPERTS AT THE SCENE

According to the president of the Nature Foundation, activities carried out in the Allianoi antique city are against the rulings of the Science Council, and no expert was present to observe the application of the rulings.

Eken also reminded the four previous decisions of the Council of the State to stop the attempts to cover the city with concrete in order to build a dam near by, and asserted that the government found a way to circumvent the law in all four cases.

THERE IS A SOLUTION

According to Eken, there is a solution that can protect the antique city while the dam can be built. Eken said that the main idea of the plan was to build strong walls around the city. Eken admitted that this approach would be much more expensive than the current solution, but this way the antique city could have been saved.

FARMERS ALSO SUPPORT THE PRESERVATION OF THE CITY

Eken also claimed that the individuals that try to generate political profit out of the Allianoi wrongfully argue that the farmers support the construction of the ban despite its destructive effects on Allinoi.  Eken stated that the farmers in the region strongly demand the preservation of the city, while they want their irrigation problems to be addressed.

NOT THE HORASAN TYPE CEMENT

Assoc. Prof. Yaraş, head of the Excavation Board stated that the cement used to cover the city was not "Horasan" type of cement that is supposed to protect the ruins. Yaraş said " the cement used in the process is regular cement that is basically consists of clay brick dust. We already took some samples to go to the court on this issue".
