LabourStart Conference at Istanbul

The second annual meeting of the LabourStart conference will be held at Istanbul this year, between November 18th and 20th. The title of this year's conference is "From Social Networks to Social Revolutions".

The second annual meeting of the LabourStart conference will be held at Istanbul this year, between November 18th and 20th. The title of this year's conference is "From Social Networks to Social Revolutions". The role of the workers' movement as well as the effect of social media and Internet on the Arab Spring will be the main discussion issues at this year's conference.

This fall Istanbul will host a very exciting and important event for the workers' movement. The event entitled "From Social Networks to Social Revolutions" will take place in Istanbul between November 18th and 20th.

Workers' Movement and New Media during the Arab Spring

During the conference, worker representatives from nations such as Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, and Morocco will discuss the role of workers' movement and the role of new media during the Arab Spring. Participation in large numbers is also expected from Europe and other parts of the globe.

Gökhan Biçici: New and Aspiring Union Forces will meet.

According to Gökhan Biçici, coordinator for the Center for Social Research and Education (TAREM), the conference will bring together the aspiring union movement in the Arab peninsula and experienced and established unions fromTurkey and from around the world together. " The role of workers movement during the Arab Spring and the relation of the new social media with the expansion of the Arab Spring will be the main topics of debate" said Biçici.

Eric Lee: LS in Istanbul is more Important Now!

Eric Lee during an interview with İMC TV said that they decided to have the conference in Istanbul long before the start of the Arab Spring. "With this new wave of uprising, holding the conference in Istanbul became even more exciting for us" said Lee and added while there will be participants from Northern and Southern America, as well as Europe and Asia, they are working hard to bring the aspiring elements of the working class movements in the Arab world to the LS conference in Istanbul.

Conference is being organized by a Collective Effort

The conference is being organized by a collective and voluntary effort of unions, alternative media associations, scholars, and organizations working on information communication technologies. Petrol-İş , the Oil workers' Union in Turkey, will host the conference at its premises. Unions of Confederation of Revolutionary Workers' Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK), and The Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (TÜRK-İŞ) are actively being involved in the organizing work of the conference. Organizations such as Alternative Informatics Association, Sendika.org, and IMC TV are also providing support for the conference organization.
